This one is a little different, plus women doing cool things, and copy resource of the week
Hey, hi, howdy, and welcome to Issue #48 of The Subhead, a bi-weekly newsletter about copywriting, marketing & media, and a look at some of the women who make it great.
In today’s edition:
✨ This week
✨ Women Doing Cool Things Round-Up
✨ Copy Resource of the Week: Humor is a Winning Marketing Tactic
✨ Just for Fun

This week
I have to confess, ever since I started my new job back in mid-June, it’s been a challenge to focus on this bi-weekly newsletter with the commitment & focus I previously devoted to it.
I have no plans to stop sending it, but dedicating 40+ hours per week to a full-time job, one I want to bring excellence to like the try-hard nerd I am, doesn’t leave a lot of mental bandwidth for other projects.
At least not right now. I think the key will be finding the ideal balance between work and personal creative projects, like this newsletter. And that will be easier once I’m in the job longer and I have my rhythm and flow there sorted.
And truthfully, I’m trying to figure out what this newsletter wants to be, now that I don’t have as much time to work on it.
For now, the bi-weekly issues will likely be shorter, and the sections may look a bit different.
I’ll still include the Copy Resource of the Week section in each edition, but the Trailblazing Women in Media/Marketing/Business, etc., mini-profile will be switched out temporarily for a link round-up of women doing cool things in media, the arts, business and other categories.
Thanks for bearing with me as I figure this out! 💖
XO,
Kimberly

Women Doing Cool Things Link Round-Up
Here are some stories I’ve read recently that I thought were worth sharing:
Halperin becomes the first woman to lead the venerable music brand.
Austen’s body of work is considered among the earliest and most prolific by a female photographer.
The former Chicago Tribune columnist shares insights into her decades-long experience as a journalist and writer.
(My favorite thing about this piece is learning what Schmich calls her “three essential mantras”: “Panic is my muse. Deadlines crowd out doubt. It always gets done.” Indeed. Something every writer can relate to!)
Software engineer and developer Nadia Odunayo created the social media readers’ platform StoryGraph and its popularity has rocketed

Copy Resource of the Week: Humor is a Winning Marketing Tactic
“Humor helps your marketing stand out. It gets more attention. It helps create a deeper and more loyal connection with your audience.”
So says this article from the fine folks at Email on Acid, and I’ve found this to be undeniably true in my many years working in marketing.
Check out the article to learn some specific ways you can inject humor into your email marketing, including real-world examples of funny email subject lines, creative CTA (call-to-action) buttons, inside jokes, and amusing email designs that will make you smile.

We asked five guards at five of the world’s most renowned museums to share their favorite pieces, and why they find them deeply meaningful, and you might too.
Includes works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Picasso Museum in Málaga, Spain, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
