This week

Nothing new on the work or life front here, aka, my life is pretty boring, just the way I like it. So, I’ll just jump right in, if you’re ok with that. 😊

Trailblazing Women in Media: Gloria Founders Leslie Price and Michelle Curb

Gloria is a lifestyle media brand & newsletter for adult women, featuring expert interviews, health information, shopping recommendations, and more.

Co-founders Michelle Curb and Leslie Price, media veterans with a deep bench of experience, launched the publication in 2021 to address what they saw as a gap in the market for women who “aren’t yet old, but still aren’t young.”

As mothers in their early 40s, Curb and Price didn’t see any outlets covering what they and their friends were talking about, so they created it: "a mix of fashion recommendations, interviews with successful women authors and journalists, and articles about topics like sexual health, parenting, and divorce.”

I’ve been loving the newsletter since I subscribed a few months ago, even though I’m not a mother, nor am I in the age demographic they set out to serve. (Proof positive that great editorial content can cross age ranges and demographics.)

You can read previous newsletters here to get a feel for the kind of topics they cover, or check out some of their feature articles and essays here.

Recent essays include, “And Just Like That” Was a Letdown, The Female Innovator Who Changed American Fashion, What My Divorce Revealed About My Friends, The Realities of Empty Nesting, and other compelling topics.

Copy Resource of the Week: 700 Power Words to Drive Traffic, Engage Readers, and Increase Conversions

Call me a sensitive snowflake, but the actual title of the copy resource I’m sharing this week makes me wince a little.

What is that title, you ask?

“700+ Power Words: The Secret Sauce of Successful Copy Revealed!”

I know what’s happening here … “secret” and “revealed” are what’s known in copy circles as “power words,” so it makes sense they’d use them in the blog title to grab the reader’s attention.

Still, it reads as kind of cringey and over-the-top to me. (Especially with that exclamation point.)

But … while I may not be the biggest fan of that particular headline or every example used in this article, it does include some really solid suggestions.

The article also addresses the rationale behind why these power words work, so even if you don’t use all or even most of them, learning how and why they work can help you when you’re writing copy for your own business or project.

The article also shares 13 places where the use of power words is especially effective, including landing pages, product descriptions, testimonials, social media posts & bios, articles and blog posts, and more.

Discover the power words and how to use them here:

As an avid reader, I could not wait to read this article when it showed up on my radar a few weeks ago! It did not disappoint.

Enjoy Dan’s eclectic reading list here:

After Dan Pelzer died this month at 92, his children uploaded the handwritten reading list to what-dan-read [dot] com, hoping to inspire readers everywhere.

That’s it for this week, my friend.

As always, thanks for reading, I appreciate you!

Be well. Stay curious. See you again in two weeks, on September 7.

Warmly,
